Retractable Dog Leash Reviews

Slip collar and leash?

Just wondering if anyone had a good review for a slip collar and leash and where they got them. My dog has been using a retractable leash (there’s still a ton of snow in wyoming so we got a retractable one so we wouldnt have to walk into the field with her to go potty) but we’re very outdoorsy people in the summer and I’d like to teach her to heel so I can trust her to go hiking and stuff with us (hence the different collar/leash). Also, what material should I get (nylon/leather etc., please don’t say chain/metal.) Any advice you guys have would be great!
Yep, I am “the one”. =) That’s what I was wondering because her hair is longer around her neck (obviously).
Can you still get the pop effect with that one? She does have the independence of an Aussie and doesn’t like to listen when we’re outside, so thats what I really need.

I use a modified martingale (nylon around the neck, chain attaching to the leash) or a pinch collar on my broken coated JRT mix. Leather collars, slip collars and chain collars tend to pull, and break, her coat.

I would think advising an Aussie owner to use a leather collar with a leash (any medium/long coated breed, actually) would be so Flakey.

ADD:

Definitely you can “pop” with a pinch as well as a martingale. Both are safer IMO than a slip or chain collar, and definitely safer than a leather collar — less likely to cause tracheal damage.
