How do you potty-train an 8 week old puppy?

I got a Black Lab/Pit Bull mix male puppy named Ripley. I adopted him June 18th. He has had 3-5 accidents since i got him..but when i tell him if he wants to go outside, i open the door, and sometimes i pick him up and take him outside, but it seems like he is scared to be outside or something..so i need tips on how to potty train a puppy.

Potty training puppies is a gradual process. First, start by buying wee wee pads for dogs. They have a scent that urges or encourages dogs to go to the bathroom on them. Once your dog gets comfortable inside, take the wee wee pad outside, but close to the house, and stay outside with him. Whenever he stands by the door to go to that spot, take him there. Once he gets comfortable there, remove the wee wee pad and go anywhere he leads you to outside. By doing this, your dog will be completely comfortable with the outdoors, and will go to the bathroom anywhere. Also make sure to take your puppy out with good timing: After sleep, naps, meals, and playing. If you are struggling a little, once in a while, reward your dog with a treat when he goes to the bathroom. That way, when you take him to his spot, he will know what to do and will do it quickly and willingly.
