puppy training outline
New pembroke welsh corgi puppy owner. Can someone outline the training classes for me? ?

Just bought a pembroke welsh corgie. He’s 12 weeks old. I know I have to take him to obedience classes but i think they have to be older for that. Is there some type of puppy classes before obedience? I also know i have to do clicker training in my house for general owner training, as well as some sort of crate training. I don’t want him in the crate all day long while im at work but i defeinately want him in there at night time and for his general shelter. There’s just so much training idea’s out there. Can an experiences dog owner, trainer, breeder outline everything for me? Thank you so much.

You start with Puppy Kindergarten class. When he is about 6 months old, you take him to Basic Obedience. When he is about a year, you can go to an advanced class or start training for some doggy sport such as agility or herding if you are interested. You then practice the commands and use at least some of them daily.

Training a Corgi is a lifelong process. THey are very smart and very stubborn. That means they are highly trainable but need frequent reminders that you are still in charge. In my experience a Corgi will either decide to be the class star showing the other dogs how everything is done (quite pleasant) or decide to be class clown. (I have had both) They are rarely just another dog in the class.

Please don’t keep him in a little box all day. Prolonged crating causes mental and physical illness. Create a puppy safe room where he can spend the day and either go home or have someone come by every 2-3 hours to take him on a short potty walk. Makes housebreaking much easier. One of my rescues was so traumatized from being crated he won’t even go into a cage or a dog house. I just hope I never need to fly him in an airplane.

Good choice of breed
