Retriever training? please help?
I just got a chocolate lab on tuesday. I wanted to train her to duck hunt but how would I get a license for a gun or take her to get her used to a gun. Where would i start? I live a few miles west of Milwaukee Wisconsin. I can train her myself because we taught our terrier how to keep the mole population down. I just need help on learning where there is a field that i can take her too that is legal to shoot in.
Also she is a shy puppy what is the best way to make sure that she is not gun shy?

Get her exposure to gunshot as soon as possible. Not too close, start at a bit of a distance. It’s best if you have someone shooting and then you and the dog walk normally closer to the shots.
If you can go to a gun range on a Saturday that would be cool. Just walk your dog leashed and give her commands like you normally do. Walk around and to and from the shooting. If she flinches or gets skittish, there’s not much to be done, she’s gun shy.
“Gun shy” and “people shy” are two different characteristics……one does not relate to the other.
