(10 points!!!!)Taking my puppy to Niagara falls(4 hour drive)?
Thunder, my GSD has never gone anywhere outside the city of London, Ontario. He has been in the car since he was a puppy and puked only 3 times. and since then, he hasn’t puked and we opened the window for him and stuff. Niagara Falls is 3 hours away, and my family and I will take stops to go to the washroom or tim hortons and Thunder has stayed in the car by himself waiting for us (we do that when we go to the grocery store and i leave the window open- he doesn’t bark at people, he’s very well socialized and trained)
What should I avoid doing/bringing? Feed him how long before the trip? How many times should he go to the washroom? every 4 hours? What should I bring? food? water? HELP!?!
When I drive to see my niece or one of my children (12-14 hours) and take a dog or dogs, I stop every 1 1/2 – 2 hours and walk them for a few minutes.
If this is a day trip I wouldn’t feed him before the 4 hour car trip going. Just make sure and offer water to him at regular intervals. Take a blanket for him to curl up in when he’s left in the car alone. When you head back home, feed him at about his regular time and be ready to spend some extra time walking him after he eats, then stop about an hour later and walk him again.
