Enjoying Car Ride Through Great Dane Puppy Training

While some pups are easily thrilled with car rides, there are a few who still need great dane puppy training before they are able to truly appreciate the so-called road trip. Getting your pup accustomed to car ride is really important. Even if you do not intend to bring him on long drives of some kind, there’ll be circumstances in which you have to let him ride the car to go somewhere like the vet’s clinic or the groomer’s center. Barking from your house all the way up to the vet’s clinic can be stressful to your dog as it is to you. It is therefore important that you train your puppy to get accustomed to car rides before the need to do so occur.

Allow your puppy to explore the surrounding of the car. Whenever he comes near or gets inside, reward him with praise and treat. You will also need to reward him if he sits or lays down when commanded. Once your young pup enters the car freely, provide a lot of praise and something truly worthwhile.

Move to next step and that is to start the engine. If he stays comfortable, drive to a short distance while stopping occasionally to praise and give him treats. You can also let him out of the car and play as long as he has his collar and leash on and has completed required vaccines. After 10 to 20 minutes of playing, you may opt to walk back home to prevent him from associating the car with the end of playtime.

Gently increase the distance of your destination each time you go out. During your dog training sessions, make certain that your own and your dog’s safety is on top of the list. There are safety tools like harness and crate you can utilize to make certain that your dog is protected should any sort of accident occur. You must also remember not to let your dog stick his head of the window nor leave him alone in the car.

Though this lesson may not be deemed as essential as training the fundamental commands, you will someday be thankful for training your dog to take pleasure in car rides when opportunity calls for it.
