Puppy Training and Socialization Training
Puppy training begins with so many different aspects that relate to their overall development, including how to feed your puppy, housetraining, grooming tips and socialization. So what do we mean by that? Knowing how to socialize your puppy is necessary in order to give him a positive upbringing.
One important subject to take into consideration is growing into adulthood. While it is true that wild animals survive without human care at all, a new puppy needs to be socialized successfully and have the desire and willingness to interact with people around it and know their owner is in charge.
Teaching Your Puppy Socialization
It takes hard work, diligence, and intelligent handling to have successful socialization. If you want to have a sically acceptable, confident and intelligent pet, expose your puppy gently and patiently to a wide variety of external stimuli.
When a pet has a neglectful owner they become spooked easily, they bite in fear, back away when approached and will act socially unacceptably. The owners never took the time to show them what the world has to offer. Often these poor, neurotic animals are filed under the unfortunate status of ‘outdoor dogs’ since they have become virtually uncontrollable under normal living conditions as family pets.
Puppy socialization training includes exposing your pets to noise, unfamiliar places and people, other pets and children, along with travel and other stressful situtations. Generally, puppies may be leary of the unknown or unusual things. Their lack of confidence may be demonstrated by barking, backing away, whining, or acting with nastiness.
If you are reassuring and gently let your pet explore the offending person or object, along with praise, you will teach the puppy that there is no reason to be fearful. Each time it overcomes its anxiety, new self-confidence is developed and it will find its next unfamiliar situation less threatening. Incorporate reassurance in your puppy training techniques.
Your puppy’s exposure to people and children should be treated in a similar fashion. While the majority of puppies are comfortable when in the presence of many different people, many will react timidly when surrounded by unfamiliar faces. To encourage socialization and freindship, ask children and even strangers to play with your puppy. When it comes to the quickness of children and their size in general, they can kneel or sit beside the animal to ease any trepidation the pet may feel.
Puppies and Children
Very young children should be allowed to play with animals only under direct adult supervision. Remember to teach children that puppies are not toys and if they injure one it can easily affect how the puppy adjust to or reacts to children from that point on. It is important to realize if the child in the house is simply too young to be gentle with the puppy, therefore refrain from bringing a puppy home for awhile or get an adolescent dog that is about 4 to 9 months old.
There are many aspects to training for a well adjusted pup and you don’t need to have a trainer. You can use puppy and dog training online.
