puppy training frustration
my 6month old puppy keeps peeing in the house and in his crate….help??!?

puppy seems to be housetrained whenever he is staying at my parents or when we were on holiday, now when he is back in the flat he persistantly pees on the floor and then more recently in his crate during the night or in the morning before i can get to him to take him out, he seems to realise that he has done wrong as he then cowers at the back of the crate, what do i do? how can i stop all the frustration ? surely he should be trained by this age and able to hold on until we can take him out

Your dog needs to see a vet immediately. You could be dealing with bladder or kidney infection, or cancer in the kidney or urinary tract, or something else. He is cowering because he knows you will not approve, but if he is ill, he can’t help the behavior. Please see a vet asap.

It could also be that the pup is simply being left in the crate too long. Rule of thumb is that a pup should be left in a crate no more hours than his age in months + 1. So a 3-month old pup should be left in a crate no longer than 4 hours at a time. This applies until dogs are about 6 months old.
