puppy training?
I am trying to housebreak my sisters dachshund pup. She has tried everything to do it, and it still pees and poos all over her house. I took it to my house to try to housebreak it. I can’t put her on the carpet, and she is staying in a crate with just a litter box, food, and water (I am trying to box train her btw) Now don’t think she is not being taken care of, because I take her out for about a half an hour every hour or so. So she’s getting a lot of exercise. I need help! How can I box train her? Any suggestions? I know putting her poo in there and stuff but anything else? Also, she barks constantly when she’s in her crate, and I hate having her in there it’s just I can’t have her ruin our carpet as well.
Try keeping her on a leash and just loop it around your waist or belt loop. That way you know where she is and what she is doing. Plus she is less apt to go to the bathroom when she can’t get away from it. That’s why a crate works. They don’t want to have to lay down by it. Still take her out all the time and keep a treat in your pocket. If she goes outside praise her like crazy and give her a treat. If you notice her smelling around and circling, get her out right away. If she does start going on the floor, say a firm no and grab her and run outside. The repremand needs to be firm, fast, and forgotten about in a matter of seconds. Little dogs are a lot harder to house train that big dogs. Just be patient. I wouldn’t keep it in the crate all the time though. They aren’t getting the socialization they need and dogs are pack animals and they need to be with their pack, which is you. There is nothing wrong with using it at night or when you are gone, don’t get me wrong, just not the biggest share of the time you are home. Give the leash thing a try. I learned this trick from a dog trainer that has been training for 30 years, and it did work.
