My puppy was potty trained but now he refuse to pee or pooped on his pad, what advice do you have for me?

I need to somehow potty train my dog again. What should I do to keep him potty trained? He’s not really listening and if I leave him out alone with the pad for a minute, he tears the pad to pieces. (While on this subject, he also rips the cotton from his toys… I need help on taming this dog.)

He’s a 7 month old longhair dachshund.

He’s not all that innocent now.

He is my first dog. I need some expert advice, aside from cruel and unusual punishment…

When I was blessed with my miniture dauchshund she was about 6 mnths old. They said she was house broke, but that was not the case. Determination is the main thing, and praise for going on the pad and a treat afterward, before you know it they will go potty just for a treat and praise. Let me tell you they are small, but the most stubborn. At the same time they get there little feelings hurt easily. Is he going potty on carpet or rugs in the house? If so he is suffering from potty pad confusion. The cotton pads are a waste of money, instead go with an old rug that still has backing on it , set it in the same room as food and water , but a distance away. Your can still call it a potty pad, because he knows what that is. Once their smell is one the rug they will know thats the place. After they begin to soil set them outside to be rinsed with rain water and dryed by the sun.. Wash them separately from other items and you dog will appreciate clean pads and get excited about. Be patient, yelling or spanking the puppy will not help. Positive and Negative Reinforcement without hitting. Your dog wants to please you, but you must tell him firmly in a different tone. Use keywords that he understands to communicate. The puppy will eventually go any time he needs to and expect to be rewarded with love and praise. My dog is almost three years old, she has calmed down enough to take commands. She understands everything, because I talk to her all the time. She was my first house dog and every moment has brought me much joy. My annie is now trained to go inside on her pad or outside on walks. Just remember your puppy needs stucture right now. That’s your job. Good Luck.
