I need some tips on training my siberian husky puppy?
We just bought a siberian husky puppy and he is 6 weeks old. I work as a vet tech so I know a lot of general information about the breed, but this puppy is a wild child! I know at this age he will be chewing, biting, digging, and refusing to listen…but I really want him to grow up into a well trained dog. I’m making sure to establish my position as the “alpha”, but I would love a few more pointers on how to start training him now instead of having a crazy dog in the future.
If you know the breed and have raised a well behaved husky, please give me some advice! 10 points to the best answer! Thanks.
He isn’t with his mom because my breeder wasn’t properly deworming the pups. He had severe hookworm anemia, so for the sake of the dog, we kept him at the clinic and treated him. I understand he should still be with his litter mates, but its also a good thing he is alive…
Actually, at this age he should still be with his mother and littermates. No responsible breeder sells puppies prior to 8 weeks old.
Siberian puppies are bright and responsive. They don’t really have the power to dig, and they actually listen as puppies better than they do any other time. Biting/mouthing and chewing are typical puppy behaviors, corrected with the proper training.
My advice to you (as is my advice to my puppy buyers) is to invest in a good Puppy Kindergarten class, with an experience trainer. Not a PetsMart/PetCo class, but a class through a private business or local dog training club. They are an excellent source for socialization and help with puppy problems.
It is so much easier to demonstrate training techniques than write them all out. A good trainer can help you with all of your questions.
