Do you think I should call Cesar Millan (the dog whisperer)?
Okay, here’s the deal:
I have a precious six-year-old Golden Retriever. He’s so kind around my family and I, and he’s super loyal to us. There’s a few problems though. My dog has a serious humping problem. He’s neutered and everything, but whenever he gets too excited, he humps anyone in sight. As hard as we all laugh, we can’t have it go on, because it’s can be dangerous when he does it to little kids and knocks them down. Also, as sweet as he is around people, he gets really vicious around other dogs. Whenever he sees another dog approach anyone in our family, he growls and tries to bite the other dog, always triggering a fight. We starting training him when he was just a puppy, but obviously it didn’t have much of an impact. Is there anything I can do to help my dog, or is it too late and should I give the dog whisperer a call?
A Trainer can help out.
Cesar does not hurt by the way more then helps. His techniques work. He does this by studying other dogs and the reaction from other dog’s and he behaves like the other dogs getting the same reaction from dog’s as if he were a dog himself.
Have a can with change in it so when you shake it it makes loud noises. So when your dog hump’s them tell him no loud and firmly and shake the can. Move away from him at the same time as making this loud noise. When he stops praise him with the sound of your voice.
Now about the aggression. You might want to consider a dog trainer about this one. You can try to prevent the situation by stopping your dog WHEN you see the SIGNS of him being aggressive. Look at the signs. Like if you see him being stiff then “touch” him around the shoulders or half point of his butt and shoulders (on the side). Touch him fast but not to hurt him At the same time make a noise like eh or chh just like Cesar does. This should snap him out of it before he goes to far and bites the other dog.
