How is my training plan for my Chihuahua puppy?
I have a 2 month old Chihuahua. I want to start to leash/collar train her and to teach her her basic commands. This is what I have started to do daily:
1. COLLAR- She wears her collar from 7AM to 9PM daily.
2. LEASH- I have two 30 min walking sessions in my backyard daily. At first she did not want to walk; she would just sit there. I started to use treats to make her walk along me and they worked miracles.
3. BASIC COMMANDS- I use treats to reward her. I am starting with COME, SIT, and UP. She is kind of getting the hang of it. I do this in one 30 min. session daily.
Also, she uses the “flea scratch” (tries to scratch her ear), but instead of scratching the ear with her hind leg, she goes for the collar, and has completley pulled it apart by scratching. What can I do to stop this?
How is my plan? Are there any flaws. Any more tips/tricks?
Thanks.
Great Job!!
You need to read the ingredients on the treats, and make sure you are not feeding too much sugar or corn syrup, as Chihuahuas can’t tolerate much sugar…
Chihuahuas also shouldn’t have wieners or ham or bacon, or bacon flavored treats..
Yep, leather collar would be better..Trim her toenails so she can’t tear up the collar you are using.
and, trade some of the treats for petting and praise after a job well done.
