puppy training HELP!!?
A week ago I got a 2 month old puppy. They said she was a golden mix, but I am not sure. I have a 3 year old and the puppy is awfully nippy, I know she is just puppy playing but it is terrorizing my daughter. I have tried yelping, giving her a chew toy, etc. But nothing is seeming to make a difference. Can anyone recommend training tips? Or somewhere to take classes, we live in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
I don’t just mean our hands, its everything. She bites our hair, clothes etc.
I have a border collie that was raised with young children and never properly trained so when I got her at 4 months she was the nippiest dog Id ever owned, even for a puppy. The breed doesn’t matter, all puppies bite, the difference is if they were with their litter and mother, they would bite back and teach them to stop. Each dog will be different so every method you read on here wont always work. In my case, I yelped very loudly and high pitched when my dog bite me as a pup and it surprised her enough to stop. Some dogs might respond to a spray bottle, to being held down (gently) each time, but remember that no matter what you try the puppy is like your three year old…it needs consistent clear training and excercise and it will take some time for you to see a noticeable difference. It can take a little longer with a toddler around because ideally everyone should be on the same training page but thats almost impossible with a toddler around. Also, you can look online for dog trainers in your area. Its a very fixable, normal issue, you just have to be commited to finding a soultion that works and following through.
PS keep in mind to not let the kids polay rough with the pup as she will see them as her “siblings” and it will encourage rough behaviour which is what happened with my dog.
