training my shih tzu bichon puppy.?

i just got a shih tzu puppy a week ago and every time i turn around he is having an accident or chewing something. he is a little terror. i love him alot and i take him out side every 2 hours like it said in a book that if your puppy is 2 months old take him out every 2 hours. but some how he seems to not want to go outside he would rather pee in side. and he sits there and chews on everything. hands including. i tell him no and he stops but then 10 mins later he is goin at it. im really stressing out. i no it takes time to train a puppy but if any one has pointers that would be wonderful.i have never had to train a puppy so it is an experience in it self. oh and one more thing how do i get him to not bite my cat.he is so intrested in the cat and wont leave him alone.

Having a puppy is like having a baby. You don’t turn your back on them except when they are contained in a baby-proof place. For a human baby, that place is his crib or play pen. For a puppy, that place is his crate or ex-pen.

Here’s a good article on using a crate to potty train a puppy:

Your next step is to discuss his vaccinations with your veterinarian. Whenever your vet determines he is protected enough by them to be enrolled in a puppy kindergarden class, do so immediately. They’ll help you with all the typical puppy problems like chewing, toileting, nipping, jumping up, running off and turning into a little tether ball on the end of a leash.

With regards to the cat: odds are if your cat is healthy he can handle working out relations with the puppy on his own. Remember kitty has the ability to go where the pup cannot reach him, if he so chooses. Move kitty’s food and bed up out of puppy’s reach. He can also out run the puppy. Kitties tend to go high and look down with disdain on puppies unless they have a specific reason to interact with them. A few good swats and kitty’s message is usually received. (This would not be true if the puppy was bigger than the cat, but a 2 month old shih tzu should be significantly smaller than a typical cat.)
