puppy training by age
what is the easiest way to housetrain a lab?

We have a yellow lab that is 6 months old. We’ve had her since she was 6 weeks old. She still stays in a cage when we’re gone and overnight. She never poops in her cage but ALWAYS pees in there. We’ve tried to put different things in there, but she just shreds them. Sometimes she still pees on the floor in the house. We try to reward her for going outside and tell her no when she goes in the house. We don’t really scold her for going in her cage because she is sometimes in there for eight hours at a time. Is this normal behavior from a puppy her age, or should she be completely trained by now? What else can we do to help teach her what to do?

i have a lab who is now 12.i crate trained him but it is important that u watch when and how much water u are giving him.a pup at 6 mos cannot hold his bladder.so if you are leaving him for 8 hours a day there is no way he is goin to hold.take him out in morning and the best case scenario is to get someone to walk him midday.as far as accidents in the house i used the “throw can” method.i put about 15 pennies in an aluminum can and anytime he was about to do anything i did not want him doing i simply shook the can and told him NO.that method was referred to me by my vet and worked wonders.in a very quick time he learned that if i even picked up the can he needed to stop whatever behavior he was doing.eventually the can was thrown out and verbal commands work well.also one more thing about crate if it is too large your pup may feel it is okay to go in there because he doesnt have to lay in the mess he has made.old blankets make great bedding in the beginning because they can be washed frequently. good luck
