One tip for potty training beagles is to avoid giving them a treat after every time they stop doing something bad. This may sound a bit confusing but it is an important tip to remember. If you reward your dog every time they obey you and stop doing something that is bad, they are going to realize that if they do something bad and then listen and stop, they get rewarded. Instead, verbally praise them after they stop if they were misbehaving, and give them treats later on in the day when they have forgotten about it. This way they are not associating their bad behaviors with getting rewards because they are not stupid and they will know they can use that to get treats.
Another helpful beagle potty training tip is to give your dog food and water on a schedule. Especially if they are just a puppy, you should treat them somewhat like a child when it comes to potty training. Keep track of when you give him food and water and then be sure to take him out for a walk about twenty minutes later. This gives the water time to make it to the bladder and they will have to go to the bathroom right on time. If you give them water and food right before leaving, how are they going to be able to go to the bathroom once you leave? This is something many owners neglect to think about when learning how to potty train a beagle. If you are going to be away from home for a while, you can leave dry food but be sparse with the water.
It is easy to see that with a simple beagle potty training tip or two, you can show your dog the proper potty training behavior and ensure they never go to the bathroom in the house and make a mess again.
