My Puppy was abused how do i help him see its ok?
i just got a new Labrador Retriever who was abused by his recent owners when we got him he was so skinny and seemed like he hadn’t eaten. hes afraid of doors like the garage door and house doors and sometimes when we try to pet him he backs away like he thinks he’ll be hit. we’ve had Labs before Jazmin and Dillon and they were fantastic they were such great dogs because they new we cared about them and would never hurt them..they died of old age RIP. but how do we help Buddy see that he’s safe with us. also any tips on training were trying to get him to stop nipping and jumping, also trying to get him to stay and lay down. he already knows how to sit and shake and stand on his Heine legs simply be us saying up but any tips for any of this it would really be helping us
My dog was abused and neglected by a man when he was a puppy too. All we did is we gave him a lot of attention, love and care. Your dog will get used to his new home, and he will learn to trust you. But for some reason my dog still hates almost all men ( like construction workers ). So your dog might have some minor side effects from his past too. A good way to see if your dog trusts you is to be near him when he eats. See if he shows any aggression or if he stops eating and watches you closely. If he does that means that he doesn’t trust you yet. Then after a while, try it again. If he lets you be near him or even lets you touch his food while he’s eating it means that your dog trusts you.
