I’m getting a new puppy soon, and I need some help! (10 pts)?
So, I’m getting a 8 week old maltese puppy. I’m really excited, I already have a shorkie and he gets along fine with other animals, but I’m not worried about that.
I’ve decided I’m going to be more strict while training my maltese.
As you know, maltese weigh a maximum of eight pounds. I was watching this video on youtube, saying where you shouldn’t let dogs jump on you when they greet you… I don’t think I’d have to teach my puppy that, right? It’s not like he’s going to become a 90 pound lab!
Heres the link: http://www.youtube.com/user/eletendre1#p/u/2/jx7RTwYF3uM
He talks about this technique where he squeezes the dogs paws to make him stay down, it’s in the time ranging from 3:30 – 9:00. Thanks!
Also, will my puppy think he is now the dominant dog? My shorkies 11 pounds, and almost two years old, I hope there won’t be any issues..
If you’re going to answer, atleast answer to both please
Most people don’t like any size dog to jump up on them so its a good idea that they at least listen when you say down if you don’t feel the need to teach them not to jump up. Just let your dogs work it out who will be the alfa, My 9 year old female rules my 9 month old female and my 9 month old female rules my 5 year old male and hes her papa!
