lab puppy training schedule
My puppy will hold it in her crate but not in the house … how can I train her?

I have a four month old black lab puppy that I’ve had for two and half months. She does very well in her crate with not going to the bathroom and has yet to have an accident in it. She’s to the point where she will sleep through the night without needing to go out. Every time we let her out of her crate we take her out to the bathroom as well as after every meal.

She also has started going to the door when she needs to go. However what we’ve noticed is that she seems to be going the door very often and when we take her outside she will pee just a little bit instead of holding it longer. She will do this several times and if we don’t let her out she will go in the house. My question is how can we get her out of the habit of going so frequently and instead stick to a schedule without having her create accidents inside.

Positive reinforcement. Ignore unwanted behavior. Dogs LOVE attention. If they don’t get praise for something, they might stop it. When you are outside w/ your puppy and they go “potty” (or whatever command you want to use) praise highly and give a treat. They will learn that “potty” is outside. If they go in the house, just clean it up and don’t say anything to the puppy.
