Housebreaking Puppy Training Aids

Where should my new puppy sleep?

I will be crate training the puppy so he’ll be in the crate when we are not home and to aid the the housebreaking process. I read somewhere that the puppy should sleep in a puppy bed in the same area where family members sleep (the bedroom). Won’t it be difficult to work on housebreaking the puppy if he’s not confined to his sleeping area at night??? I don’t have a problem with a dog bed in my bedroom, but am concerned about nighttime accidents.

I would suggest crate training him and having him sleep in the crate, but keeping his crate in your bedroom so that he can hear you breathing and know that you are there. When he’s potty trained, you can leave the door open, and he’ll probably be pretty happy to stay in there because it will become a comfortable and familiar place for him.
