new puppy, house training issues?
i just got a new puppy. he is 4 months old.
we got him at a pet store,
basically he has pooped and peed everywhere but the wee wee pads or outside, hell he hasnt even peed or pooped on the tile.
just the carpet.
and he is too scared to poop outside or go on a walk, or do anything outside in general
basically i just want some helpful hints on how to make his house training quicker because i cant keep cleaning up shit because it makes me throw up.
i already love the little guy but christ this pooping and peeing all over the place has got to stop!
Okay, first – get a grip! Puppies poop and pee everywhere if you give them free run of the house, and if you have a sensitive stomach, you won’t make it. First, make a place for him – preferably in a bathroom. Have a nice, warm comfy bed for him on one side of the room along with his water and food dish and a few toys. Then cover the other half of the room with wee wee pads. He won’t want to soil his bed – no dog wants to do that, so he’ll go for the pads. As his “aim” gets better, you can reduce the area size of the pads until you just have a couple. When he uses the pads, praise him, but you’ll also want to teach him to go outside. First thing when he wakes up in the morning or from a nap – take him outside and play with him a little. Show him outside is fun. Then, wait him out – as soon as he poos or pees outside, lots of praise, then bring him in for playtime, etc. Of course, he’s a little scared. Everything is new to him so give him a chance to adjust. Remember, he’s a baby. Unless he’s been fully vaccinated, I wouldn’t take him for walks or anywhere else. Puppies are very suceptible to lots of diseases. Once he’s had all his shots, start leash training him. Puppies should use breast collars – not neck collars til they’re older and the two of you should definitely enroll in an obedience class. They will cover the basic commands as well as leash training. Just be patient – he won’t learn everything overnight.
