Dog pooping laws in Georgia
I was walking my dog tonight and my dog pooped in the area between the sidewalk and the road (the thin strip). I thought this was the polite place to let your dog poop but the lady whose house was there came out and went ballistic. Of course I picked up the poop (as I always do) but I am wondering what exactly are the laws pertaining to dogs pooping in Georgia? I know in other states this area of your lawn is not technically owned by the property owner (I read up until the utility boxes is actually community property). I just want to know in case this psycho freaks out again. By the way I do live in an HOA community but it only states that they dogs must be leashed (they were) and that you pick up after them (I do). Thanks!
Honestly I don’t think poop laws focus around laws at all – its more of a moral thing, clean up after your dog period. That is exactly what you did, the womens reaction to me was out of line, instead of making a scene, she should have come out and thanked you for being one of the few who does clean up after their dogs.
I too live in an HOA, in Texas. We have similar by-rules I guess you can call them. My husband grooms our yard and always has it looking nice. Many, many of times I have seen neighbors walking their dogs on leashes, stop in my yard for their dog to relieve themselves then walk off b/c they think no one is watching. Me, instead of making a scene, I just walk out there and clean it up.
My neighbor across the street on the other hand, older man – I have seen him on a few occasions go outside, clean the mess up then walk down the street and hand it to the owner of the dog that left it behind.
Most cities have an easement from the roadway that belongs to the city, but there are some people who will always claim that as their own. Contact your local police dept ACO (Animal Control Officer) and find out exactly where you stand. He is the best one who can answer that question for you.
Sounds like you have one grumpy, old crabby women living in your neighborhood, sorry…
