puppy training Please Help?
please help Im sitting for my mothers yorkie,for a week. he’s 7 months he’s in his creat and will not stop barking. we are in the same room as him and my dog who’s 6yr old toy poddle is free roaming the house as usual because perfectly trained. They love to play togetherJoey (moms yorkie) keeps peeing on my newly finished wood floors so I have to keep him in there while im busy. For about an hour everytime he barked I put him outside so he would associate barking with going out but I can’t keep it up and me and my husband are losing our minds. They have only had him about a month and he’s not trained at all . Please tell me how to get him to quiet down? Its only the first day of the week I can’t take 7 days of non stop barking and wineing
If you can give him some play time with your dog in the morning, it should make him tired enough to sleep for a little while. Immediately after play time let him out to go to the washroom (exercise usually makes dogs have to go), then put him into his crate. You can give him a kong with something in it if he isn’t tired enough to sleep. If he barks, you know he just wants your attention and he doesn’t actually need to go out. Instead of saying anything to him or giving in, take a spray bottle and spray him. Then walk away. If he barks again do the same thing. Usually the barking stops pretty quickly. In a few hours or when you take him out of his crate immediately put him outside to go to the washroom, then you can let him play again. Also, whenever Joey falls asleep, make sure to put him in his crate to sleep. This will help him learn that his crate is his safe place.
If the spray bottle doesn’t work, you can use a can with pennies in it, but try the spray bottle first.
