Bike With Your Dog with a Walky Dog Bike Leash

This is how I came to find a product that allows you to bike with your dog in a totally safe way.  I had a new mountain bike several months ago, I hadn’t owned a bike for many years but you never forget how to cycle one.  Being here in the Lake District there are so many scenic great places to explore on your bike both off the road and on sleepy country lanes.  The first time I went off on my bike, my young westie dog Dougs watched with interest through the kitchen window and I noticed him watching me cycling off and felt guilty, so bad that after a brief cycle ride to the farm shop for some groceries, I took Dougs out for an extra long walk to appease him!

My husband said I was being ridiculous feeling guilty and brushed it aside, nevertheless several days later he came home with a present for me – a Walky Dog Bike Leash.  I read the instructions and fixed the device to my new mountain bike (which was very trouble-free), had a little go riding the bike with the Walky Dog attachment first, to make sure if it was on rightly for me, which was fine.  I then went in the house and said to Dougie “Bikies – you want to go Bikies?”  That was it, he was paying attention and out we went to the bike which he instantaneously lifted his leg on!  I connected the Walky Dog and extension leash (he needs the extension, being a small dog) and off we went gradually down our own long driveway for a practice session.  Dougie took to it really well, just trotting happily alongside as I cycled at my own pace, glancing back up at me every now and then.  My man is a genius finding this for me to be able to bike with my dog.

That was four months ago and now we go biking together by means of the Walky Dog Bike Leash (weather permitting) about 4-5 times a week, in truth he hardly ever goes just for a walk these days.  We always take a water container with us, as now and again we go a couple of kilometres.  Every so often I remove the Walky Dog attachment and use it as a regular lead and we amble back home, with me pushing the bicycle, so Dougs can sniff and do whatever he wishes.  It tires him out happily – good for large dogs that could do with a great deal of exercise.

Another good thing in relation to this smart invention is it’s not only suitable to bike with your dog but can also be fitted to a wheel chair.  My Mother has a personal mobility device and uses my Walky Dog device connected to her wheelchair to take my dog out with her when my parents dog sit.  Being a hands-free gadget, she’s more secure taking my little dog out with her like this, though she got into a bit of trouble when she forgot to detach it ahead of going into the supermarket!

Biking with your dog is enjoyable, and good exercise for both of you.  It’s not safe at all to fasten a normal lead to the handle-bars of your mountain bike – I saw a cyclist recently who had fastened her dog’s lead to her belt whilst biking with her dog – so frought with danger – the girl stopped and asked me what I was using, she’d never heard of a Walky Dog Bike Leash in the past!
