Any tips on wrangling a mad poodle puppy?

I have a 6 month old standard poodle, who is just SO excitable. Our main problem is when we come home from work (or return after 5 minutes in the loo) she jumps around like she is on springs and finds it very hard to settle. The same (but worse) happens when we have friends over.
I know she is just a pup, but she weighs about 16 kilos already and is tall too!
She is easy to train basic commands, but I think we just haven’t found the right technique to stop this behaviour.

The best thing would be to ignore her excited behaviors, tell her to sit..once she has calmed down then give her the love. Everytime anyone pets her while she is excited and bouncing all over is just praising her for doing so. Practice calm with her then give her love..she will soon realize being calm gets her attention while jumping up and acting goofy gets her no where at all. Good Luck.
